In addition to the main programme, we are pleased to be able to add to the conference mix a number of exhibitors and performance events that we hope will enhance delegates' experience of the event.

Andrew Motion

Andrew Motion

Andrew Motion will be reading his poetry in the imposing South Quad of the Founder's Building (weather permitting!) at 8.15pm on the Thursday evening.

Andrew Motion read English at University College, Oxford and subsequently spent two years writing about the poetry of Edward Thomas for an M. Litt. From 1976 to 1980 he taught English at the University of Hull; from 1980 to 1982 he edited the Poetry Review and from 1982 to 1989 he was Editorial Director and Poetry Editor at Chatto & Windus. He has recently been appointed Professor of Creative Writing at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and lives in London.
Andrew Motion was appointed as Poet Laureate in May 1999.

Kevin McCarron

As well as being a presenter in one of the formal sessions of the conference, Kevin will be entertaining us with stand-up comedy after the conference dinner in the Picture Gallery on Friday evening. Kevin McCarron is a highly experienced comedian and compere, performing throughout the year at the national Laughing Horse chain of comedy clubs, as well as making appearances at stand-up venues up and down the UK, in France and in Spain. His unique comic perspective will focus on a range of subjects, including Jane Austen, American cinema, night clubs, foreign travel and teaching in prisons.

Allegro Arts will be playing jazz music during the drinks reception from 6pm to 7pm on the Friday evening.
